Individual Advocacy
Assist individuals with self-advocacy as well as teach individuals how to obtain necessary support services from the community. This is done by consumers working one-on-one with an independent living specialist to create goals to increase independence. Individual services may include.
Employment Services
Counsels job seekers in how to set goals, enhance skills, and develop resume writing and interviewing techniques. Additionally, consumers will be educated about work incentives, ADA rights, requesting reasonable accommodations, etc.
Financial Benefits Services
Guides consumers through benefit services, such as Social Security and health insurance.
Education Advocacy
Advocates during school meetings to ensure that students are in the least restrictive environment and have a transition plan for independent living.
Housing Services
Assist consumers in finding and keeping affordable and accessible housing. Additionally, consumers can get assistance with transitioning from an institution and into the community.
Systems Advocacy
Seeks to engage local, state, and national leaders to create changes to make it possible for people with disabilities to live independently.
Issues such as accessibility, public accommodations, and transportation are significant in the promotion of full inclusion in every aspect of community life. Additionally, the Center promotes self-determination as a component of advocacy, and supports employment, and voting as important self-directed steps along a path to greater independence. The Center offers education to assist individuals with disabilities in learning their rights and responsibilities as individuals of the community.
